Basil Fact Sheet

Botanical Name – (Scimum basilicum)
Part of plant used – Leaves and flowering tops

Basil is light green in colour and was traditionally used as a culinary herb in the countries of India, Asia and in the Mediterranean. Basil is a top note, has a strong herb aroma and vaporizes quickly.

Physical Applications

  • Temporary relief from headaches and cold symptoms – bronchitis, coughs in chest – inhalation
  • Dyspepsia – massage
  • Flatulence – massage abdomen
  • Relief from and prevention of muscular aches and pains, cramps and spasms – massage, compress
  • Cold sores – apply neat

Cautions

  • Do not use if pregnant
  • For adults use only
  • Do not take internally
