Black Pepper Fact Sheet

Botanical Name – (Piper nigrum)
Part of plant used – Fruit (dried peppercorns)

Black pepper was held in very high regard by the ancient Romans and also the Chinese medicine people. The aroma is distinctive and warming and the therapeutic uses are many. It is a middle note.

Emotional Applications

  • to boost energy levels
  • to become more organized
  • warming and energizing

Physical Applications

  • Temporary relief from rheumatic pain, muscle stiffness and tired aching limbs – massage, bath and warm compress
  • Chilblains – massage, foot or hand bath
  • warms up cold hands and feet – massage, foot bath
  • Muscular warm ups before physical exertion – massage
  • Relief of flatulence – massage

Cautions

  • Do not take internally
  • Do not use on children
  • Use only in small doses as prescribed
